Great Egret Portrait at La Jolla, California
A great egret stands alert on a rocky ledge along the shoreline at La Jolla Cove, San Diego, photographed in calm morning conditions. Egrets regularly patrol this area, hunting small fish in tide pools and shallow waters as the tide recedes. For the best results, photographers should target low to mid tide when more feeding spots are exposed, and aim for early morning or late afternoon light to capture warm, directional illumination and softer shadows. Approaching slowly with longer lenses helps maintain natural behavior amid the cove’s steady visitor flow.
