Great Egret Feeding Behavior in Everglades National Park
A great egret was photographed in Everglades National Park holding a small fish in its bill, showcasing classic feeding behavior in a freshwater wetland environment. The shallow water habitat provide ideal hunting grounds, where egrets rely on patience and quick strikes to capture prey. Photographers visiting the Everglades will find the best opportunities along sloughs, marsh edges, and roadside canals, particularly during the dry season when water levels concentrate fish. Early morning light enhances feather detail and catchlight in the eye, while using a longer focal length allows for close framing without disturbing the bird’s natural behavior.
