California Sea Lions Interacting on the Rocks – La Jolla Cove
This photo shows California sea lions resting on the rocky shore at La Jolla Cove in California. One sea lion leans toward another with its mouth open, likely making a sound or showing off, which is common in crowded sea lion groups. Other sea lions are stretched out on the rocks nearby, as they often gather close together in their favorite spots. La Jolla Cove is a great spot in Southern California to see California sea lions in their natural habitat. They often rest, interact, and make noise on the sandstone ledges and worn rocks along the shore. In the late afternoon, the light brings out the shine of their fur and the shapes of the rocks. Wildlife photographers can get surprisingly close views here from the public walkways and cliffs above the cove. Using a moderate telephoto lens lets you focus on moments like this while staying at a safe distance and still capturing the lively social behavior of these vocal sea lions.
