Anhinga Drying Wings on Gumbo Limbo Trail in Everglades National Park
An anhinga is photographed on the Gumbo Limbo Trail in Everglades National Park with its wings fully spread, a distinctive behavior used to dry its feathers after diving. The dark body contrasts with the striking silver-gray wing feathers, creating strong visual texture and pattern against the softly blurred wetland background. Often called the “snakebird” for its long neck and swimming posture, the anhinga is a common and iconic species along Everglades trails. Gumbo Limbo Trail offers excellent opportunities to capture this behavior at close range, especially when birds perch in open light. Positioning slightly below eye level emphasizes the dramatic wing display, while warm early morning or late afternoon light enhances feather detail without overpowering the darker tones of the bird.
