Sunset lights at Santa Monica Beach
While driving from Laguna Beach to El Matador Beach, we realized we wouldn’t make it before sunset. Instead, we decided to make an unplanned stop at Santa Monica for the night, which turned out to be a fantastic decision. The opportunity to photograph the iconic Santa Monica Pier on Santa Monica State Beach was too good to pass up. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky came alive with a breathtaking palette of colors, beautifully reflected in the receding ocean water. The scene was made even more spectacular by the solar-powered Ferris Wheel, which stands an impressive 85 feet in diameter and is illuminated by 170,000 LED lights. The vibrant lights of the Ferris Wheel, combined with the structure of the pier, created an exciting and dynamic composition that perfectly encapsulated the energy and allure of Santa Monica at dusk.
