Sunset at Horseshoe Lake
Located in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, Horseshoe Lake is one of many beautiful lakes in this part of the Sierra Mountain range. A nice trail that goes around the lake offers many views of the lake, surrounding forest, slopes of Mammoth Crest, and the southern flank of Mammoth Mountain. Unfortunately, there has been a large concentration of carbon dioxide that killed many trees in the area. Scientists believe that the gas concentrated under Mammoth Mountain has been released since 1989 after the earthquake that created underground pathways allowing gas to reach the surface.
