Mesquite Sand Dunes at sunset
The best time to photograph the dunes in Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park is sunrise or sunset. When the sun is closer to the horizon, it creates a strong contrast between a sunlit side of the dune and a shadow one. Also, it emphasizes interesting patterns found on the surface of the dunes. The area is easily accessible from the parking lot and has no marked trails, so you are free to walk up and down the dunes to find the perfect vantage point. Any lens can be used, but the long one is beneficial to isolate the subject.
