Fall colors in Barker Dam
During our visit to Joshua Tree National Park in late December, we were pleasantly surprised to encounter beautiful fall colors around the Barker Dam reservoir. Known for its predominantly rocky desert landscape and iconic Joshua trees, the park offered a refreshing change of scenery with this vibrant display of autumn hues. The Barker Dam, also referred to as Big Horn Dam, was constructed in the early 20th century to provide water resources for livestock. This historic structure, set against the backdrop of the desert, creates a unique photographic opportunity. In addition to capturing the contrasting colors of fall, the Barker Dam area is a great spot for hiking. The Barker Dam Nature Trail provides a scenic route for exploring the surroundings and enjoying the diverse landscape.
