Eastern Sierra view from Monitor Pass

Landscape Photography

Our last photo of the day was taken at Monitor Pass, a high mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada southeast of Lake Tahoe. We traveled from Lake Tahoe to Mono Lake via State Route 89, a route renowned for its excellent views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The stunning scenery of Monitor Pass offered a perfect ending to our photographic journey. It’s intriguing to reflect on the contrast between our modern exploration and the challenges faced by Jedediah Smith in 1827. Smith was the first non-native person to cross the Sierra Nevada, and his journey must have been far more arduous compared to the ease with which we could navigate this beautiful high mountain pass today.
