Clouds over the Monument Canyon

Landscape Photography

The Monument Canyon is the largest canyon in Colorado National Monument. The most prominent rock formation found in the canyon is a 5,739-foot-tall sandstone pillar called the Independence Monument, the rock that is illuminated by the morning sun in this picture. The canyon also includes other iconic features, such as a linear set of pillars called Coke Ovens and the 400-foot-high tower known as Kissing Couple. Rim Rock Drive road provides convenient access to multiple viewpoints allowing photographing those unique rock formations. This photo was taken near the Grand View.
