Clouds over sand dunes – Great Sand Dunes National Park

Landscape Photography

Great Sand Dunes National Park is an excellent destination for landscape photography. It offers the tallest sand dune formations in North America, the mountain scenery of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, wetlands, and streams. Many locations are providing excellent vantage points to photograph the dunes. You can hike the dunes to get very close to the subject, allowing you to photograph small details and patterns and a broader view of the dunes. Also, since the dunes occupy an extensive area, you can photograph the dunes from a distance. We took this photo about 4 miles south of the visitor center on the side of road 150. The Sangre De Cristo Mountains were covered with fog and clouds that day, so they are not visible, but it is also a good photo spot if you would like to include them in the background.
