Turret Arch Framed by the North Window in Arches National Park
The North Window along the Windows Trail provides one of the most recognizable compositions in Arches National Park: Turret Arch framed through the opening of the larger sandstone window. This vantage point highlights the scale difference between the two formations and shows the Entrada Sandstone’s warm color and curved erosion patterns. The arch’s interior surface acts as a natural frame, guiding the viewer’s eye toward Turret Arch and the surrounding fins. Turret Arch displays a distinct tower‑like structure paired with a smaller opening, shaped by long‑term weathering and the gradual collapse of sandstone fins. From this angle, the arch sits centered within the North Window, creating a balanced composition that emphasizes depth and geological context. Warm directional light enhances the textures on both formations, revealing cross‑bedding and subtle color variations.
