Sunset Over Moraine Park and Beaver Meadows, Rocky Mountain National Park
At sunset, Moraine Park and Beaver Meadows offer one of the most accessible and photogenic views in Rocky Mountain National Park. In the foreground, you’ll see open grassland, scattered pines, and exposed rock, which create a textured base that draws your eye toward the snow-covered peaks in the distance. The mountains rise steeply above the valley, with warm evening light touching the upper slopes while the lower areas fall into cooler shadow. This contrast adds depth and shows the park’s shift from meadows to high alpine terrain. Located on the eastern side of the Continental Divide, Moraine Park and Beaver Meadows feature a mix of grasslands and ponderosa pine forests. Their wide, open spaces make it easy to photograph the peaks without trees blocking your view. The colorful clouds often reflect the changing light of late afternoon, adding even more interest to the scene. Many photographers come here at sunset because the light from the west highlights the ridgelines and keeps the valley looking soft and balanced. Using a wide-angle lens works well, especially if you include rocks or grasses in the foreground to lead the viewer’s eye toward the sunlit peaks.
