Sunset Over Lake Jocassee from Jumping Off Rock Overlook, South Carolina

This photo shows a wide, elevated view of Lake Jocassee, taken from Jumping Off Rock Overlook in the Blue Ridge foothills of South Carolina. The lake lies in a protected watershed near the edge of the Jocassee Gorges, an area known for its diverse plants and steep, forested hills. Autumn leaves in the foreground add color and depth to the scene. The lake is the main focus, with peninsulas and islands forming layers that lead the eye toward the distant mountains. These layers help show the scale and distance, especially with the soft haze in the air. The sun is low on the horizon, casting light that shapes the hills and highlights the calm water. Some clouds soften the light, yet a clear sunburst still appears near the top of the frame. This spot is a great place for sunset photos, thanks to its open westward view. Using a wide-angle lens lets you capture the whole scene, and placing foreground elements carefully helps balance the photo. It's important to watch the changing light, since contrast can shift quickly in the last minutes before sunset.
