Sunset from Gore Range Overlook, Rocky Mountain National Park

This photo shows a sunset from the Gore Range Overlook in Rocky Mountain National Park, looking west at layers of alpine ridges. You can see high-elevation tundra and exposed rock, with patches of snow still on the distant peaks. The sun is low on the horizon, partly hidden by the mountains, and its warm light spreads across the scene while dark storm clouds move in. A rustic wooden fence cuts diagonally through the front of the image, leading your eye toward the peaks. Rocks on the right side add structure and texture, helping to balance the composition. The overlook is on Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest paved roads in North America, and offers wide views above the treeline. Sunset is a great time to visit, as the side light brings out the details and adds depth to the ridges. Using a wide-angle lens lets you include the fence and rocks in the foreground while keeping the background in scale.
