Sunrise Reflection of Mount Rainier at Reflection Lakes
This photo captures Mount Rainier at sunrise from the shore of Reflection Lakes in Mount Rainier National Park. The snow-covered peak rises above a dense subalpine forest, and its full shape appears in the calm lake below. Mount Rainier, an active volcano and the tallest mountain in Washington, stands out in the landscape and shapes the local weather and ecosystems. Early morning light brightens the upper slopes, while a layer of mist floats just above the water, separating the forest from its reflection. The quiet morning creates a nearly perfect mirror image, with only a few ripples softening it. Using a wide-angle lens from a low spot on the shore and including small evergreen trees in the foreground adds depth and scale. This spot is best at sunrise, when the wind is calm and the reflections are clear. For the best results, set up along the lake’s edge, center the peak in your frame, and use foreground plants to add interest while keeping the horizon straight.
