Sunrise Over Wetlands at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge
This photo shows the wetlands of Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge at sunrise, taken from the NM-1 Wetlands Roost. The refuge is in central New Mexico along the Rio Grande floodplain, with marshes, open water, and desert grasslands that draw migratory birds and offer many chances for photography. Early sunlight hits the mountain peaks at a low angle, highlighting the ridges and textures, while the foreground stays in softer light. Clouds add shape and color to the sky without taking over the scene. The calm water reflects the landscape, creating a strong horizontal symmetry. Grasses and plants in the foreground add detail and a sense of scale. This spot is great for photographers who want layered images. Standing near the water helps you control the reflection, and small changes in your angle can show more or less of the plants in front. Sunrise is the best time here because the light hits the mountains directly, keeping the photo's contrast balanced.
