Sunrise Light on Hickman Bridge, Capitol Reef National Park
This image features Hickman Bridge in Capitol Reef National Park, viewed from the main trail area during early morning. The natural bridge spans a shallow canyon formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone, a process driven by water flow and long-term weathering. The surrounding terrain includes rounded slickrock surfaces, scattered desert vegetation, and layered canyon walls that frame the arch. At sunrise, low-angle light first reaches the upper portions of the bridge, casting soft illumination across the arch while leaving the canyon floor in partial shadow. This creates moderate contrast and helps define the structure’s curvature and thickness. Clear conditions support even light distribution, avoiding harsh highlights while maintaining detail in the rock surface. A wide-angle lens effectively captures the full span of the bridge while preserving a sense of scale.
