Sea Stacks at Sunset, Olympic National Park Coast

This photo captures a rugged stretch of the Pacific coastline in Olympic National Park, famous for its sea stacks and lively marine setting. A tall rock formation rises from the beach, topped with wind-shaped conifers, which are typical of the area’s sedimentary and basalt rocks shaped by erosion and tectonic forces. More stacks and arches appear in the midground, adding depth and layers to the scene. The wide-angle, low viewpoint highlights the wet sand in front, where the receding tide leaves a reflective surface. This reflection makes the main stack stand out and helps balance the photo. Warm sunset light spreads across the sky and water, while thin clouds soften the light and keep details visible. This spot is great for landscape photographers, especially at low tide when it’s easier to get close and find interesting foregrounds. Walking along the beach lets you line up the sea stacks for layered shots. Sunset is a good time to visit, as the light brings out the texture of the rocks and creates reflections on the wet sand.
