Mount Rainier from Glacier Overlook, Mount Rainier National Park
From the Glacier Overlook on the Burroughs Mountain Trail in Mount Rainier National Park, you get a direct view of Mount Rainier’s upper slopes. The area features a wide glacial basin with exposed moraine, meltwater channels, and sediment deposits that show ongoing geological activity. At the bottom of the valley, a small turquoise lake stands out against the dark evergreen forest, its water tinged with glacial silt. The Glacier Overlook gives you a clear view into the drainage, making it a great place for photos with layered depth. Forested ridges in the foreground add dimension, and the lines from erosion and ridges naturally lead your eye toward the mountain. Clouds often cover parts of the upper slopes, adding depth without obscuring the summit. Light from mid-morning to early afternoon works well here, illuminating the glacier and highlighting the textures in the rock and ice. Using a wide-angle lens helps you capture the layers and highlights the connection between the glacier, valley, and lake, while keeping details sharp throughout the scene.
