Mount Rainier Above a Sea of Fog, Mount Rainier National Park
Mount Rainier stands out on the horizon in this early morning view from Sunrise Park Road in Mount Rainier National Park. As the tallest peak in the Cascade Range, the mountain rises above the nearby ridges, and you can still see patches of snow even during warmer months. In the foreground, dense subalpine conifers typical of the park’s higher areas fill the scene, while low clouds or fog settle in the valley below, clearly separating the different layers of the landscape. Sunrise Park Road is one of the highest places you can reach by car in the park, giving you a great spot for wide-angle photos. The edge of the road and the sloping plants naturally draw your eyes toward the mountain. When the sun rises, light from the east hits the upper slopes first, slowly revealing the details of the ridges and forest canopy. Calm weather often leads to fog like this, adding depth to the view without hiding important features.
