Lower Yellowstone Falls from Artist Point, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
This photo captures the striking canyon landscape at Artist Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, offering a clear view of Lower Yellowstone Falls. The waterfall drops about 94 meters (308 feet) into a narrow canyon carved by the Yellowstone River, which flows through steep, worn volcanic rock altered by heat and water. From this high vantage point, the canyon walls seem to frame the waterfall, drawing your eye toward it. The river below also leads your gaze deeper into the scene, adding a sense of depth and scale. Gentle, even daylight softens shadows and brings out the details in the rocks, which show muted shades of yellow, brown, and gray typical of this area. Artist Point is one of the easiest spots to reach and offers a strong, balanced view of the canyon. Using a mid-range or telephoto lens can make the falls stand out more within the scene.
