Low Clouds from Hurricane Ridge, Olympic National Park

This photo shows a high viewpoint from Hurricane Ridge, one of the easiest alpine spots to reach in Olympic National Park. You can see several ridges dropping into a valley filled with thick low clouds, which often happens here when moist sea air cools overnight. In front, subalpine meadows and scattered evergreen trees help set the scale. The ridge in the middle cuts across the scene, while the cloud layer acts as a soft barrier between the foreground and the distant peaks. In the distance, sharp mountain shapes stretch along the horizon, creating a sense of depth. Early sunlight brings out the grass's texture and highlights the ridges without making the shadows too harsh. This spot is especially good at sunrise, when the cloud layers are still in place, and the wind is usually calm.
