Full Moon Rising Over Saguaro Desert at Painted Hills Trails, Tucson

This photo captures the moon rising over saguaro-covered hills in the Painted Hills Trails area of Tucson Mountain Park, just west of Tucson, Arizona. The park preserves a large part of the Sonoran Desert in the Tucson Mountains and is home to many saguaro cacti, the tall, iconic species found in southern Arizona and northern Mexico. Here, the full moon rises above far-off mountain ridges, with tall saguaros standing on a rocky desert slope. The sky glows with soft pink and purple colors, which are common at twilight when sunlight lights up the high clouds even after the sun has set.
