Bridalveil Fall in Fog from Tunnel View, Yosemite National Park

Bridalveil Fall rises along the sheer granite walls of Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park, one of the most geologically significant landscapes in the Sierra Nevada. This telephoto perspective from Tunnel View isolates the waterfall against vertical rock textures, compressing distance and emphasizing scale. Fog drifts across the lower valley, partially veiling the conifer forest and creating layered depth beneath the 620-foot cascade. Soft, diffused light reduces contrast on the cliff face while preserving detail in the water’s narrow ribbon. This viewpoint works well with a long lens, allowing photographers to eliminate foreground clutter and focus on structure, texture, and atmosphere. Fog introduces variation and mood without obscuring key elements, making overcast or transitional weather particularly productive. Careful framing along the cliff’s vertical lines strengthens composition and highlights the fall’s slender profile against Yosemite’s granite backdrop.
