Autumn View from Angel Falls Overlook, Big South Fork

This photo was taken from Angel Falls Overlook on the Grand Gap Loop in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. From here, you can see the South Fork of the Cumberland River winding through a wide, forested gorge on the Cumberland Plateau. Tall sandstone cliffs line the rim, and far below, the river weaves between boulders and gravel bars. In autumn, the scene is filled with color. These forests are an important part of Big South Fork, which protects over 125,000 acres of plateau, river gorge, and sandstone bluff habitat.
