Autumn Sunrise Over East Dallas Creek Valley, Uncompahgre National Forest

From East Dallas Road at sunrise, you can see a wide valley in Uncompahgre National Forest, with the rugged Sneffels Range in the background. The forest shifts from montane to subalpine, with large aspen groves that turn bright yellow in early fall, mixed with darker conifers that add depth. Morning light comes in from the right, lighting up the aspen slopes and leaving some of the valley in shadow. This creates layers: a foreground of shrubs and grasses, colorful hills in the middle, and sharp peaks in the background. Broken clouds catch the warm colors of the sunrise, adding interest to the sky without taking away from the landscape. Photographers can easily stop along the road, making it simple to find different angles. Small elevation changes along the route offer several spots to adjust your composition. Using a mid-to-wide lens helps show both the valley and the mountains.
