Alpine Ridges from Obstruction Point Road, Olympic National Park
This view looks out over steep, forested ridges from Obstruction Point Road, one of the highest roads you can drive in Olympic National Park. From here, you can see deep into the park’s rugged interior, where layers of sedimentary and volcanic rock form sharp peaks and deep valleys. In the foreground, a sloping subalpine meadow with dry grasses leads into thick stands of conifers. This change in landscape gives a sense of scale and creates a strong base for the photo. In the middle distance, a band of evergreen trees follows the ridge, drawing your eye across the scene. Lower down, a patch of low cloud sits in the valley, standing out against the darker ground and showing the changes in elevation. The scene is lit by clear, angled morning light, which brings out the ridges' shapes and adds texture without losing detail. This spot is great for photographers who want to capture layered landscapes. Standing a bit higher along the road or on a nearby trail helps line up the meadow, forest, and distant peaks for a balanced shot.
