California - Mono Lake

Mono Lake sits at 6,000 feet in elevation in the high desert of the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada in California, covering about 65 square miles. It is a shallow saltwater lake, and being 1 million years old, Mono Lake is considered the oldest lake in North America. It is a trendy place for landscape photographers offering iconic, very distinctive, and dramatic features called tufa towers made of limestone. When the water is still, you can capture their beautiful reflections and reflections of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. It is especially very photogenic when Sierras are covered with snow. The best spot to photograph and see the tufa formations is at the South Tufa. The shore is easily accessible from the parking lot via a wooden boardwalk. In addition, the Mono Lake area is a breeding place for migratory birds so that bird photographers can find this place very rewarding as well.
