Brown Pelican in Flight at Key Largo, Florida
A brown pelican soars low over the clear coastal waters near Key Largo, Florida, wings fully extended as it scans for fish below, photographed in warm afternoon light. Pelicans are commonly seen along the Keys’ shorelines and channels, often flying parallel to the water before plunging headfirst to feed. Afternoon conditions can produce stronger highlights and richer water tones, making exposure control important to preserve feather detail. Using mid to long focal lengths and positioning with the sun slightly behind or to the side helps capture dynamic flight images while maintaining natural contrast and color.
